Negotiations on the deal began about four months ago as part of efforts to strengthen ties between the two countries damaged by differences on regional issues such as Libya and Turkey’s support for the Muslim Brotherhood and other political Islamic groups.
"We are aiming to finalise the #UAETurkiyeCEPA in the coming weeks, and build deeper, more meaningful trade and investment ties with one of the region's most important economies," Al Zeyoudi said on Twitter following a video conference with his Turkish counterpart on Thursday.
"We discussed the current state of the ongoing negotiations of Türkiye-UAE #CEPA and the steps to be taken to finalise the agreement," Turkish Trade Minister Mehmet Mus said in a post re-tweeted by Al Zeyoudi.
The UAE is pursuing the trade deal with Turkey after negotiating several Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreements (CEPA) with countries including India, Israel and Indonesia.
Al Zeyoudi took part in Turkey’s Izmir Business Days Forum via video conference on Thursday, an event Mus also attended. He said he discussed strengthening food supply chains.
“Agriculture and food commodities are an important part of UAE-Türkiye bilateral trade,” he said.
